its funny, a bit odd, how only after almost 3 years of living here do i actually get to see a show at the famed carnegie hall. that's like spending a month in this city and not even making a visit to the guggenheim museum (which to date i have not been to, ha..) but anyway, last feb 28th i finally was able to see the inside of the carnegie hall. or should i say, hear the carnegie hall.

managed to score a pair of free tickets from free arts, a non-profit i volunteer for. brought along a jap friend who turns out to love the orchestra coz she used to play one of those gigantic contra bass as a kid.

the music was marvelous. the moscow orchestra was great. they played music which you'd only hear as nokia ringtones or looney tunes soundtrack. the 2 featured artists (one a violinist playing on a 1700 something stradivari, the other a cellist) were only in their early 20s and were absolutely wonderful youd almost be expecting them to be these grey haired masters (although of course im no classical music genius so you can choose not to take my word fot it).

it was great to see and hear the moscow orchestra at carnegie hall. and more importantly, to rediscover once again one of the many wonders this city has to offer. now if ony i could convince those long faced subway riders that there's more music and life to be heard in this city aside from those coming from their ipods. oops, i forget. i could be one of them too.
