the 4-day party-hearty (day 2)
it was a good party last night again. it had its own distinct charm. around twelve of us went to this tapas bar on first avenue called xunta to celebrate in advance the birthday of a friend from college (sarah). my first time at a tapas bar actually and it was a great experience (well, it better be, especially if im moving to spain in 2-3 years or so).
the tapas (tapas are appetizers as the spanish call them) were good. chorizo, quezo, gambas (although i didnt try that for fear of any allergic gagging reactions), empanada, etcetera, etcetera. the 3 pitchers of sangria for all of us were good as well. especially that the body alcohol level has dropped signficantly since coming back from the trip to holland so the drinks were much needed.
the best part of the experience however (aside from the new set of friends that is)was seeing the flamenco dancers and hearing the great spanish guitar. amazing! lot's of energy and passion. i never knew the spanish (although they could be faux spanish, who knows) were that passionate. they were dancing and playing the guitar with so much gusto (and noise) you couldnt help but want to clap to the beat or take up flamenco dancing after. it was really nice nice and loud but loud in a good to the ears sort of way. the bar was a great find. ill definitely come back again for the good music and good atmosphere. was even approached by one of the dancers after their number. i guess she saw me taking photos of them while they were dancing and she wanted to see if she could get a copy of the photos so she can have them on file (style niya bulok, haha). and so, ill email it one of these days and see if i can learn more about the flamenco and a little bit more of the spanish culture (just so i know as well how much of the philippines now is thanks to 300 years of being under those folks).
after the bar, was peer pressured (how high school) to join everyone else in jonah's apartment for after party drinks and chilling out (tambay). stayed there for about 30 minutes or so. had good fun watching the folks make a fool of everyone else. but quite amazed at how responsible everyone was with not staying too late or drinking too much, knowing that today's a workday.
got home at a very decent time of 12:30ish. woke up with a very tolerable headache (more out of a lack of sleep actually than the drinking). got to work bright and early (it's strange, i actually enjoy getting to work really early sometimes). made sure i left the office as close to 1PM as possible. last summer half-day friday today. went to the farmer's market for a nice little scone and cheese lunch. saw the queer eye food guy in his homeboy ordinary man's clothes checking out the herbs and the cheeses. in the library now, how geeky, trying to finish the book project which'll release on monday. and more importantly, getting myself recharged for a bigger (perhaps crazier) party at 10:30 tonight.
lessons learned from party-hearty day 2--when partying, try something different and, as with everything else, do so in moderation. well, that 2nd part, we'll see later if it also applies for friday nights.

Love your blog! It's blogs like yours that let me travel without actually going anywhere. Someday I'll visit New York. (Spain also would be fun I think.)
Thanks
