on the brighter side of things
sucks terribly of course that team oranje was undeservedly kicked off the world cup by the portugese in the most entertaining (ie action-packed slash messy) match so far. but, whaddyagonnado. no point whining over missed opportunities (although figo should really have been thrown out with that head butt, that goal post a centimeter higher and robben given a penalty kick with that flying kick to his chest but anyways...) despite team orange bowing out, life has been otherwise pretty bright.
joined the corporate challenge last thursday in central park with around 10 officemates. was my first official 5k run and i must say i didnt do that bad. of course, i felt that i couldve had a better time but with the 17k people joining and scorching heat, it was tough being able to push. good experience though. and it was a lot of fun comparing times and joking around with the officemates.
friday was spent again in central park to watch the refugee all stars, a group from sierra leone, and a documentary about them and their music and how it's been able to become an outlet against the civil war. it was a good experience. especially for one who's probably not the most world-facts savvy person, it was good to catch a glimpse of yet another corner of the world. favorite part of the screening was when the group played a final song after the film showing. coz obviously after knowing a little bit more of their background and their lives, you do become a little bit more invested in their music.
aside from my millionth visit to the dentist for the year this morning (and the fact that holland is out of the world cup), things are actually going alright in this side of the world. even got text messages from officemates last sunday consoling me when holland lost. kinda funny obviously. but it's definitely a nice chill social atmosphere with the world cup around. heck, we were even having a status meeting this morning in the big conference room with the projector showing the brazil-ghana match. nice. let the fun times roll. tonight a concert (or 2). tomorrow a suprise agency-wide party. they're not saying what it is but my guess—a booze cruise. that would be nice. but for now, i need to find a way to watch that spain-france match in an hour. and find a way to get rooney, becks, and crew to beat the crap out of figo's team on saturday.
