weekend in delaware and another weekend adventure
sweet. 2 seats all for myself. a rare new-york bound chinatown bus occurrence, even moreso it's the last day of a 3-day weekend. a nice celebration of breathing space way to cap off a weekend spent in delaware with family.
it was a nice change of pace and environment once again. lots of space and greenery to replace the usually overcrowded big apple. not much color when it came to the people though. most of the delawareans came in pale (hoping to be tan) white. language was much tamer as well with the nephews around. the baddest f word around them was F-A-T. fuggedabout f*ck coz that's punishable by standing in the corner. of the toilet. with your unwashed hand tied to your nose. also, chillin' was done in the backyard instead of in bars and lounges — a nice afternoon garden water fight with the nephews complete with dolla store super soakers, a few buckets, the hose and healthy dose of silliness. a full deck barbecue instead of my lame excuse for a barbecue balcony barbecue. my grilled bacon-wrapped asparagus and cheese was an experiment went great. nice mix of crunchy and chewy, healthy and deadly. an overflowing amount of food as well at my aunt's and uncle's you swear youve seen their house in MTV cribs mansion. great food but really temptingly deadly—especially that moist frosting-rich chocolate cake. good thing though was that i was able to do my running still and even tried out a yoga class there to balance things a bit. and as usual, sticking to my nonconformist new yorker roots slash eco-friendly faux european sensibilities, i decided to walk the highways from the yoga class instead of waiting to get picked up by car. during the hour's worth of walking the highway, i held my head high as one-person driven cars and SUVs zipped by. such a sickening sight almost. although of course, not to be overly hypocritical, i did somehow enjoy eventually getting picked up by my brother-in-law on his top-down ferrari. nice.
once i got back in the apartment from the bus ride from delaware, dropped off my things and was off back to the city for a little shopping spree. got myself some polarized ray-bans coz all the harmful summer rays were beginning to destroy my eyes (plus of course oakley's apparently are disgustingly expensive). also, got myself a new great pair of adidas running shoes which i immediately took for a test jog at night in mccarren park. considering how much id spent on such a fine pair of shoes, i was easily convinced to take it for an even further ride this coming weekend. ive signed up for the tour de cure, a bike tour this sunday benefiting the fight against diabetes. should be a fun challenging ride—my first 100km ride. of course, i wish i had a real racing bike and not a mountain bike but im sure ill manage. with the rugged jersey and new york roads, ill be better off in those wheels anyway. and also with shoes named gigaride and screaming impossible is nothing, how can i not finish. well, we'll see. if all else fails, i can always ride the chinatown bus to delaware for some stress-free fun and space-rich reality. and home-cooked and chocolate-cake carbo-loading.
