impossible is nothing

not sure what it is ive been smokin but whatever it is or isn't, apparently it's working, for somehow the past week's been all about having an utter disregard to preconceived limits—

• a certain just do it attitude which pushed me to pedal my way to work wednesday. first time i'd actually biked to work and it turns out the morning and after work ride are actually very pleasurable. and that stinky sweaty feeling i thought i would have, didnt happen at all. it was this same drive that sent myself biking instead of taking the subway all the way up to the upper west side for a colleague's party saturday. the post-partying early morning hour's ride back home proved refreshing and was a great way of burning off the alcohol.

• a second wind that pushed me to run like crazy monday night. following the flying dutchman's example of having US armed forces music booming to my ears while running, i sprinted like a crazy forrest gump trying to save private ryan. i believe i have not felt as out of breath as i was. and ironically, i learn, the feeling of aliveness reaches its peak as one is almost out of breath. and i realize as well that one discovers his limits only by pushing it. same discovery as i huffed my way into squeezing in that extra 31st lap of swimming saturday morning.

• a confidence that made me present marketing concepts to a group full of adults at least 10 years older than me. a certain disregard for seniority and a reassurance that quality of ideas isnt necessarily a result of age as everyone was wowed by the quality of work i did. this same take charge confidence in the office as i have been given more projects to handle by myself. from deciding voice talent and edits for an upcoming spot to being able to supervise a freelance interactive art director to expressing one's video ideas to the head account princess with much ease and energy.

• an overcoming of a natural cultural-bred shyness and instead an openness and comfort of being with and meeting other people. attending a party of mostly white ohioan strangers now based in greenpoint tuesday night. grabbing a few drinks with a good mix of asian colleagues and their model-looking friends. big housewarming and birthday bash of an officemate saturday night with being able to carry conversations instead of sitting in the corner as is customary filipino-style in unfamiliar groups.

• a disrespect for failure. an inability to whine over disastrous photos and other things messed up. a refusal to be overcome by pessimism and negativity. instead a resilience to be able to load another roll of film and snap away. a hardheadedness to overcome a bad hangover and bike my way to an early morning sunday yoga session. a refusal to let life pass by and become a complete couch potato rotting infront of the TV and instead choosing to go to the park to watch the kite flying festival, to listen to the hungry (but real entertaining) march band, to enjoy watching a game of footie between 2 mexican teams, to eat a nice sweet and sour mango, to feel that wonderful prickly sunburnt feeling while laying on the synthetic park grass. and at the same time smelling the not so sweet taste of sun-soaked rubber grass.

• a refusal to be bound by physical geographic boundaries. news from manila telling me that the book that i had designed a cover for is finally printed and that the plans for the launch is already in the works. a nice overseas phone call to the great dutchman to greet him on his birthday complete with sharing the same old bullshit stories and planning the big trip to the philippines in november.

impossible is the proud sponsor of sissies. impossible is for wussies who'd rather spend their sundays whining on their couches watching the telly or sending out instant messages. it's not a fact. it's an opinion. impossible is a choice. impossible is a declaration. it's a dare. impossible is potential. impossible is temporary.

allo! hmm, scary to comment here but here goes. I read the entire thing. Inspiring as always. And wow, you're really doing it, living life, meeting so many interesting folks. I wish things could be as fun and challenging for me in the future. It's too bad, I heard about your visit and I wanted to talk to you.
