beware the side effects of yoga

left the yoga class monday night with that clear-minded lightheaded feeling that usualy comes after a good yoga session. my head held high and with an inexplicable sense of positive energy, i rode the train. no rush whatsoever, everything easy just like a bob ross painting session on TV. in the middle of the ride, id realized my left wrist was bare. what the fuck, id left my tag heuer watch on the floor of the classroom. except those weren't my thoughts really. somehow, there was no need to say, nor think the F word. what prevailed was an inner numbness—a careless attitude towards things material (although that watch did come from my mom so it was of value somehow).

the new yorker killer "the world is out to F me" instincts were replaced by a "no worries human nature will prevail and all shall be well" attitude. besides, the room wasnt named "heaven" for nothing. for sure, someone would return the watch had they picked it up. with my nerves all numb, called the yoga institute once i got home). anne who picked up the phone was quite calm for someone taking a lost watch call as well. "Hi, just came from a class there on the 6th floor and id left my watch... blablabla..." "OK, we'll call you back." and they did about an hour later. the watch was there. picked it up next day noon as though it never got lost in the first place.

apparently, as good as yoga is, it has its side effects. it leaves you quite immune to worrying and likewise somehow detached to things material. and also, it leaves you with a somewhat exaggerated trust in human nature. yes, even in the badass city of new york, trust in human beings apparently is possible. who knew? apparently as well, ive become somewhat of a poster boy for this particular yoga institute in the agency. there've been 3 colleague referrals already. now if only they paid me for all the new business. oh i forget, its not all about the money.

jeez, i guess there goes all those yogic side effects. ok, from now on, swimming it is. although that leaves my skin snakescale dry and my eyes bloodshot after smoking pot red. fair enough. i'll just sit on the couch. forever.

just in case anyone's worried though that i've been overcome and hypnotized by an excessive case of cuckoodom, no worries. i still do enjoy some more traditional fun like going out to bars to listen to live music. last night for example was spent at the galapagos art space here in billyburg with officemates angela and jay. the ukes of hazzards, the best ukelele and casiotone band alive, were hilarious. with their euro-pop-ish sound, they sang of having their periods in the least glorious places, having boners just like men do, and drinking girl beer. ok, not the most traditional band ever but hey, the couriers, who played before them were mainstream enough. in an indie pop/rock hipster geek unique sort of way.

despite the yoga, not to worry, the capitalistic instincts are still very much present. my spanking brand new online bought toy camera got delivered tuesday and ive been taking it all over. best camera ever. not as good as my digital slr though but quite good as well in a takes 8 frames per 2 seconds in a single exposure sort of way. i got the oktomat which is part of a whole slew of amazing lomo cameras. hopefully, i dont get tempted into buying a second, a third lomo. but we'll see i hope this roll turns out terribly disappointing so i don't get that tempted.

trivia of the day: today april 20th is national high five day. so throw your hands up and give everyone an exploding high five. dont take it too extreme though coz your neighbor might think you're a nutcase. not that you arent of course having reached this part of the blog.
