the 4-day party hearty (day 3)

i remember the bar being called happy ending—named after the supposed happy endings that had happened there before when it was still massage parlor (ie brothel). i remember almost missing the bar since it's front looks like some regular chinese take out store, except with bouncers. i remember being surprised at how nice it was inside despite the plain facade. i remember seeing nik, rich, george and eugene (one of the 2 birthday celebrants), and lots of asians, mostly of the US-bred type and a year or 2 younger, i think. i remember having 2 shots of kamikaze or whatever that was, 2 glasses of gin and tonic, and a huge pint of stella. i remember the loud music—80s, hiphop, and r&b. i remember wanting to dance but feeling restricted to very minimal movements as most everyone was either just standing or sitting and chilling in the couches.

i remember missing the nightlife of maastricht with all its dancing, drinking in small glasses of beer, joking around, and lots of collective energy—none of the american uptight standing by the bar, chitchatting with everyone (although there was a bar in maastricht that was like that too). i remember seeing these really nice mestizas though so that's good. i remember feeling very disciplined, making sure i had just the right amount of alcohol in my body, nothing too much and nothing too little. i remember seeing this couple come out of the restroom together and feeling like it was as normal as seeing the sun rising and setting. i remember giving this lame excuse for needing to leave coz i didnt want to get too crazy with the drinks coz the hangover from the other night was still just on its way out (and besides there's still some drinking left to do tonight).

i remember walking up to 14th street, feeling quite trippy, seeing all the crazy new york nighttime creatures—3 women fighting, an old woman looking up and praying in the middle of the street, one guy spitting all over the place (oops that might have been me). i remember passing by pomme frites and through the window, seeing sammy, a friend, still working and entertaining the night-out east village crowd. i remember feeling tempted to get an order of fries there but decided not to since it didnt feel right. i remember getting a cheeseburger with everything on it including zi pickles in a deli up on 14th street, not from the favorite best place for burgers after a night-out deli though. i remember riding the subway back home—seated across 3 or 4 latina kids with stuffed animal toys (kids in the subway that early in the am, only in new york) and next to this dude who had his snapple rolling back and forth quite annoyingly.

i remember getting home at a very decent 1:40. i remember eating the 4 leftover dumplings i saved coz i knew i was going to be hungry like a horse when i got home. and i remember sleeping quite well, except for the strange need-to-check-the-net 5-minute wake-up-break which i usually get anyway.

lesson learned from party-hearty day 3—at parties, remember to drink up. that way if its a great party, you're sure to have even more fun. if it's not as great a party, you'll hardly even notice its suckiness. oh and remember to drink only as much alcohol as your memory will allow you to remember.

great saturday here so far. perfect weather. nice and breezy, especially with the new really short haircut i got this morning. did my nice little walk through the farmer's market already. great smell of fresh fruits, flowers and vegetables and great pungent smell of the cheese as well. bought a nice thai meal from a street fair i chanced on and ate it nice and relaxed at washington square park. having my first ever yoga class in about an hour. and of course, the house party in jersey tonight. i'll probably weasel out of the bar-hopping and the drinks in the city after. but we'll see. it is after all saturday night.
