john mayer (trio) concert
was able to watch john mayer's concert at the beacon theater last night (im just as suprised as you are coz the ticket/invite from friends came at the last minute. well, more like day before, but anyway...). it was a good show although i must admit i enjoyed myself more at the john mayer concert i saw year or two back. BUT BUT, having seen last night's show. i've found an even greater respect for john mayer, the musician and artist.
the way he hooked everyone (whether by plan or coincidence) with his earlier "pop-ish" music and using that draw to expose everyone to his now "blues"-ish and less mainstream sound is just brilliant. with his new music, his skill as a musician/guitarist is definitely highlighted further. plus of course he's added 2 other equally great musicians to form his "john mayer trio." and watching them play is more like watching a bunch of guys making music, enjoying it than it is of a band putting on a show. and that's noteworthy.
reinvention. it is great how artists and people evolve. and the johnman is definitely an example of one who continually hones his craft and produces something fresh. (dont know about the long curly havent cut or washed my hair in ages look though but i guess that comes with the i need a mature face coz there has got to be less of the sorority girl fans and more of the music enthusiasts). not sure how people will receive his new sound (well, people were singing to all the songs in the concert in philly but not to the ones last night). but in the end, i guess it really doesnt matter how much people receive. the popularity is just secondary (if at all a factor even). what's at the heart of it is really the expression of one's music/passion and the ability to share that with others.
good concert. good music. great artist. performance-value wasnt as good as the one 2 years ago. but then again that shouldnt be a factor anyway.

next concert: jason mraz. october 17th at the lincoln center. can't wait. should be another great treat.
most recent celebrity sighting: kate winslet at the chelsea market (where our agency is) this morning with her kid and nanny. she's actually very pretty in person. i guess it helps when you see these "celebrities" in their just as human as everyone else situations.
