independence day

another 4th of july. another day of fireworks display. this year seen from the east river brooklyn side. another day of growing personal independence. paying the month's rent, walking the bike to the shop to get the flat fixed from an early morning exploration of the bumpy roads of greenpoint, putting some order into my savings the night before, figuring out where to get the most interest and all that grown-up crap, washing one's dishes finally, cleaning up after my own mess although those piles of laundry are wanting of attention. planning a possible august vacation to madrid. making my own decisions (although bringing beer to what turned out to be a buddhist friend's party was bit stupid), the freedom to make my own choices and make my own mistakes.

as the macy's fireworks, missiles in north korea, and the shuttle discovery were all sent flying to the sky on the 4th of july, a certain personal pride was soaring too. few days prior saw me taking a trip back to the old apartment in queens. something about the cramp space (brought by the landlady's excessively eclectic design style) and the staying infront of the telly for more than 2 hours, just felt claustrophobic and overly 5 minutes ago. in no time, i was biking back to brooklyn in the rain with the speed of discovery (coz i didnt want to get hit by any lightning) and the carefree attitude of an f* you world korean missile. ok, maybe not. but something about the bike ride back home in the rain felt real good. good enough to send some independence day fireworks flying.
