movin' along

been a week back now from vacation. and things had picked up in the city for the weekend. friday was the second to the last summer friday so i was out of the office as soon as it hit 1—off to the NYU area to get a little revisiting going. hit the favorite cafe esperanto for lunch, got some exercise at the coles sports center, did some scanning in the NYU library, visited the friendly village photostore processor to get some images enlarged, and walked around the neighborhood to eventually land at the union square farmers' market. got myself a nice loaf of fresh whole wheat bread and a slice of good mild cheese—and enjoyed a spanish tapas dinner once i got home, complete with olives, oil, vinegar, and of course the vino. sweet.

saturday was spent all the way in wanaque new jersey for a colleague's barbecue. brockie (the office brit) was kind enough to pick us up and shuttle us all the hour and a half out there. the food and drinks were great. steak, chicken, potato salad, rice and beans. my personal favorite though were the chorizo and sangria. it was after all a venezuelan household. some dominican cigars were for guest's enjoyment as well. nice. also present were salsa music for people up for dancing, a trampoline for those up for bouncing and tiki torches for those who might be interested in almost getting their jackets torched (that would be me, oops). once back in the city, brockie, his irish friend allen and i grabbed a few more pints at puck fair. bloody wicked. cheers.

sunday got me waking up thinking i were back in amsterdam. for one, it was a good sleeping in for me. and the whole day saw almost nonstop rain. did a bit of cleaning up the house and once done, did some biking in the rain to get the spirit of the lowlands going. eventually brought myself indoors again to the bikram studio. kinda funny once i got there coz they were wondering what ever happened to me after going everyday for a month, all of a sudden disappearing for more than 2 weeks. felt good being missed somehow. and felt even better surviving the 90 minutes of sweet torture. once done with my fill of physical and mental exercise, headed to the nearby surf bar for a nice warm cup of chowder to counter the grey weather. nice tiki bar atmosphere with surfboards on the ceiling and sand all over the floor. and a projected surfing video. sweet. not quite filled with mere soup for dinner, cooked myself a nice catfish dinner, and enjoyed a glass of riesling to go with it. chill.

monday now and so far a good start to the week. still succesful somehow in keeping some european spirit going with a more relaxed pace, the cups of cappucino, glasses of wine and biertjes, and a good dose of socializing. all this while the feckin new york edge likewise still in place. thats good to know.
