the power of images

attended a reception yesterday at the art directors club. a new york launch of sorts for a project i had learned of few months back. a celebration of the power of imagery to create change. an endeavor rightfully called, "change me." an online platform where users can pick their favorite photo and express their thoughts on it. and for each contribution, gettyimages (the sponsor) donates $10 to the global fight against AIDS, tubercolosis and malaria.

it was a fairly interesting exhibit. i did wish however that they had featured more of the people's contributions. nevertheless, it was a good cause that at least made me come home immediately logging on to the site. where i must had easily spent an hour enthralled in the depth of insights and images from the world over. check it out if you have a few minutes to spare. even better, join the conversation by including your thoughts.

the past days have been bombarded with images (both still and moving) from the world over. civilians caught in the middle of the current middle east fighting. a cruise ship tipping 30 degrees on its side injuring hundreds. indonesians coping with the wrath of the tsunami that hit them. fushbuck caught on candid mic and camera with his conversations with blair. and though these images may be of worlds so different and distant, they definitely put a more palpable face to the reality that is.

got myself a spain travel guide over lunch. as usual, headed straight to the few select pages that are filled with full color images. must say i can't wait to be in the real setting of those seemingly history rich and beatiful scenes. 3 more weeks and there i'll be taking my own images of my own spain. obviously, cant wait even more to hit amsterdam again. especially now that the main objective and theme for the ad center business convention in the amsterdam HQ is set—drink thy brains out, but spare thy livers. sounds good to me. hopefully id be sober enough to take photos for a possible spreek je filipijns, part dos. or not.
