fine living weekend in delaware
it was a good weekend spent in delaware—a celebration of sorts of the finer things in life. friday night was spent dining at domaine hudson, a wine bar personally picked by my nephews whose birthdays we were celebrating. my pinot grigio went really well with my salmon entree. but nothing was quite as satisfying as the stilton cheese plate i had after and the glass of vintage port to go with it. perfect complements to each other. moreover, quite matching with the fancy ambiance were the stories of travels round the world.
saturday afternoon was spent having a water fight with my nephews in their backyard. super soakers were out. and while the kids duked it out, i occasionally lay comfortably on the shaded hammock. dinner was spent alfresco in the deck with quite a selection of food—steak, salmon, tilapia, pancit, asparagus, etc. good food enjoyed in really pleasurable weather.
sunday saw me driving myself to the neighborhood yoga studio (to balance out all the excess food and conveniences, or at least try to). of course, not having driven for over 6 months, it took me some 5 seconds to get the hang of maneuvering my brother in law's audi. once back, i decided to run around the neighborhood (to burn off some of the brownies, maybe). the heat only allowed me to run once around the hood. but the central air conditioning of the house cooled me back again in no time. the afternoon was spent mostly in the shopping mall at the apple store getting my nephew's ibook repaired.
by 6 at night i was back to reality. waiting at the station (or at the roadside to be accurate) for my chinatown bus to bring me back to new york was a complete 180. was laughing my brains out at how drastic a change it was. one second im riding an audi, next second im watching one of these old vans getting packed with the people whom the bus cant fit. it was like some illegal immigration border crossing scene. thankfully, having bought my ticket online, i was able to secure a seat on the bus. infront of this annoying college kid who was like on the phone like you know pretty much like the whole like trip. jesuchristo.
---
this coming weekend a bigger adventure awaits. i hit the unfamiliar streets of madrid and toledo. and the weekend after, a much bigger one—some party hearty drinking the brains out like there's no such thing as liver disease, deep in the heart of amsterdam with none other than the flying dutchman himself, il cohen. i sense some action in the docket. i cant wait.
