random bits of this and that

so ok, my brain's a bit too lazy to come up with a coherent idea to this entry. so i guess, i'll just ramble on 'til i find one.

i attended another (post)holiday party last wednesday. our agency played host to our main clients in a little get-together with cocktails & buffet dinner all the way in philly. i must admit the food wasn't all that good but there were 2 main saving graces—the ultra-decandent chocolate fountain (crap, i ate my first and hopefully last cookie of 2007, an oreo dripping in melted chocolate yumminess) and the 2-hour plus bus trip back to new york (where like a high school field trip, the drinks were going around like crazy and people sleeping were photographed like dozing off were a mortal sin).

i attended another party saturday night. this time, a filipino friend's birthday celebration at hell's kitchen. bit funny obviously coz somehow ive missed a couple too many get-togethers past months with that group of friends, so i was welcomed back as though i were some lost sheep. good to be back from AWOL status and im sure ill be showing face a little bit more often.

i managed to finish reading my first book of the year, fulfilling my a-book-a-month-for-07 january obligations. ernie schenk's the houdini solution was a good read. it's main thesis is that thinking out of the box may not necessarily be the real measure of creativity—working within one's parameters is. think macgyver, think houdini, think back to all the fun original creations you made with that box of lego you got for christmas. loads of insight.

ive actually started reading my second book for the year, the lazy person's guide to investing. obviously, this grampa is looking forward to early retirement so i can travel my brains out. well, actually the truth is that i just opened a brokerage account last week and i must admit save for a few classes back in nyu, im practically clueless when in comes to all that personal finance fun stuff. three chapters in and looks like i can have a portfolio that'd beat the average wall street genius.

aside from striving for a healthy mind, the drive for a healthy body is looking good as well so far. been taking good care of myself — swam some 80 laps yesterday, did bikram yoga saturday, and saw myself biking in the snow for the first time today, even. freezing my hands out and drying my lips up dont feel that good though so im enrolling myself to a spinning class at NYU, which starts this sunday. my flash animation class in pratt starts on wednesday as well. although that isnt really a health thing. but something to look forward to nonetheless.

so right, where is all this randomness going to. well, here's a shot—i know the new year is already 22 days old but thankfully, there seems to be a happy new year vibe to each day so far. and i guess the trick is to keep things fresh, keep things exciting. keep things random. instead of turning left, make a right. when you think you've ran enough of your brains out, run another minute. instead of eating the usual fast food crap, cook your own meal. instead of the usual point A to point B routine, why not make a stop somewhere in between. try something new. learn something new. each day. each day?!? well, a day's too precious to put to waste anyway, so why not?

happy new day, everyone. now, get off this blog entry and do something that's actually fun.
