artsy-fartsy saturday

illustration workshop @ ADC

had a good art-themed saturday. spent the morning at the art directors club to volunteer for the saturday career workshop. there were 43 high school juniors. the day's project was doing self-portraits out of magazine and art paper cutouts—an illustration style made famous by stephen kroninger, the day's lead professional. stephen is the only illustrator who's had a one-man show at the museum of modern art. he has great works and he has an incredibly weird sense of humor. love it. (not too sure about the groupies ive developed though).

great film on divorce

treated myself to a good indie film and saw the squid and the whale. slept through the first 5 minutes. not the movie's fault though. just a weird habit of mine. the movie was quite good. it had an off-beat humour about it which i really liked. a great fresh take on divorce and growing up. wonderful casting. and enjoyed the soundtrack too. big winner at the sundance festival. see it if you get the chance.

stockholm orch @ carnegie hall

spent the evening at carnegie hall. scored tickets to the stockholm orchestra so invited a friend over. we were seated all the way into the front row. was good to hear classical music and a full orchestra for a change. the conductor was really into it and was sweating all over the place. was just waiting for him to fall off the stand but fortunately didn't happen. listening to their music was a great way to cap off an art-filled saturday. a great day's worth of exposure to different people's ways of expression and creation.
