a glass of alcohol a day

attended a nice book launch at the art directors club the other night. canadian hotshop taxi hosted the party. it was good flipping through the annual to see the past year's advertising/design/photography winners. too bad i couldn't bring home my own copy yet coz it would mess their courier system.

went to the party with officemate julia. we ended up meeting 2 others whom we ended up chatting with the whole night and having a good time with actually. one of them, christy, looked awfully familiar. turns out she went to NYU as well and was actually in one of my classes there. no wonder. the lots-of-wine induced conversation jumped from scary freaky roommates to trips to nudist colonies and beaches (not that id ever been to one). was a fun small group—we even ended up staying a little longer than the display tables were cleared. oh the wonders of open bar events. i may have drunk a little too much wine on an empty stomach though coz i woke up several times in the morning with an awkward hangover-y feeling. nevertheless, it was a good unexpected night out.

last night, i decided to play loser and skipped joining officemates in their chelsea gallery-hopping. decided id do some sports instead to detoxify myself a bit (although i did have a nice stella once i got home coz the cold windy weather required me to get some insulation going). my powerbook was giving me problems all night (told you i was playing loser—since when did problems with objects become consequential?) my laptop wouldnt startup and i had to install, reinstall, diagnose, rediagnose and all that fun stuff. eventually i got the thing to work again. sheesh, no email for the night. sucks!

tonight should be better than last's. i'm meeting a friend from holland (willemijn, coen's older brother's girlfriend whom i met in utrecht) and her colleagues. they flew in yesterday and id promise to take them around the city a bit over the few days they're here. all set to meet later. planning on taking them to cafe gigi, nice cozy east village BYOB place. ive invited the other dutchies as well. and some filipinos as well. should be nice warm welcome to an otherwise cold city. im wondering though if the nice red bottle i have now is enough to keep the fun conversations rolling. well, we'll see. i just might get another one on the way.

that's it for now. should be a nice weekend this side of the world—my racquetball and yoga classes start this weekend. wish everyone a nice weekend as well. and i hope you're getting your glass of wine (or any alcohol apparently) a day to keep those heart attacks away. actually, make that 2 for good measure.

(funny kids, these officemates—they saw that i bought a bottle of wine now sitting here at my desk, and now everyone's asking, "do you have a hot date tonight?" hot date?!? it's freezing all over the city, hot date.)
