office clean up day

it was clean up day in the office today. no biz-related work was to be done (at least in theory that is) and everyone was required to clean up their own space and their areas. most everyone came in sweats ready for the hard day's work, er cleaning up.

threw away tons and tons of photography and design books and trees and trees worth of printouts (i owe mother nature big time). discovered lots of suppliers' freebies (like caps and a booze thermo bag) in the hidden crevices of my area and rediscovered my unopened box of tivo machine by my desk (gotta convert that to cash on ebay soon). everyone else found and threw away all sorts of stuff from their areas as well. everyone was in a lively mood. boxes of pizza were served for lunch. it was a good change of pace from the regular flow of work. plus of course, it's actually quite nice to have a table to work on again.

we also had our suprise baby shower for sung, one of the creative directors. i had art directed the card/baby book we gave him and it was good to see that he (and everyone else) liked it a lot (of course, ive established this reputation for being the go-to guy for all the non-billable fun projects and so i wouldnt be surprised if im the first to go come hell time in the office, haha).

it's quite a good office environment actually. sure, overall, the agency may not be working on the sexiest brands in the world but nothing beats the very family-like atmosphere and all the characters in the office (plus the fact that i get to go home at a very decent advertising hour and that the industry's paid a bit better and practically recession-proof but enough of this office crap, time for the fun stuff.)

tomorrow night, i'll be watching some officemates' bands play at the knitting factory (yes, il cone, i'll be watching with zi italian olive). nils, an art director in the office, is part of future folk. and foti, copywriter on the team (aka foti-dodey-dodey to julian the creative director), will be playing a set as well with his band, john foti. it should be a good night out tomorrow and im looking forward to the music and the action.

greatest news of all: my newfound favorite corner cafe is now open til 10PM (as opposed to 8PM). im here now actually posting this entry. as usual, the owner is the bestest cafe owner of all, not that i know any other cafe owners. today's stories revolved around the best song of all time (which i forget what it was) and the healing detoxifying powers of a wheatgrass shot (considering all the office dust that's stuffed in my lungs, i thought i needed some extra healthy boost; and it seems to be working. then again, it's all in the mind anyway, as her grandmother always says). for now, enough of this blogging, time to hear more stories and to chill in this 10-times better than that dunkin donuts across the street place.
